Welcome to Our Church
David Langdon
Church Warden
Welcome to this website of the Church of the Holy Cross, the parish church of Binstead on the outskirts of Ryde on the north coast of the Isle of Wight.
We are a modestly sized but active and outward-looking congregation with a church building, parts of which date back for over a thousand years. For many years we have enjoyed a close partnership with our neighbouring parish of St Peter’s in Havenstreet and, more recently, with Wootton (St Mark’s and St Edmund’s). Now, we are developing ever closer links with the churches in the Ryde area.
As you look around our website, remember the generations of Island people who have come to our church through hundreds of years to have their children baptised, to be married and to bring their loved ones to be buried, as well as to pray weekly about the things that concerned them and to offer worship to God.
Remember their concerns about the Black Death, the Reformation, the Civil War, the abolition of slavery, the wars with France as they watched Nelson sail for Trafalgar, and the two world wars of the twentieth century. Then consider the great issues of today's world and, if you can, offer them to God in prayer that He may make them His concerns.
Offer your own worries and burdens to Him and those of the people you love.
We hope that you may be inspired by our website to visit our church, to come to some of our events or even to join us for worship. If you do, you can be assured of a warm welcome.
